CATCHING UP WITH NIKOLAJ EGESTORP

What do you do for a living? I am proud to hold the position of Creative Lead at GUBI. We try to create a seamless blend of classic and contemporary aesthetics by telling stories in a meaningful yet cool way. When I am not immersed in design work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, trying to maintain a healthy balance between work and life.

In your opinion, what is the best thing to wear with loafers? I love dressing down in general. My go-to move is slipping into some loafers with a trusty pair of jeans and a crisp white T-shirt. Let's be real, loafers are like the chameleons of footwear because you can pair them with almost anything and still look like a million bucks.

What is your favorite city to visit? Although it may seem cliché, there is something truly enchanting about Paris during springtime. Imagine taking a leisurely stroll through the beautiful parks, enjoying delicious cuisine, and absorbing the atmosphere. It's a truly blissful experience.

How would you describe your personal style? I would describe my style as mostly casual, but always with a focus on quality. When I shop for clothes, durability and quality are the most important things for me. I have a soft spot for Japanese brands, I feel like they set the bar in terms of quality. Lately, I have been feeling the pull towards more dressed-up looks, but then my inner streetwear enthusiast kicks in when I see a nice hoodie with the right print. For me, it's all about dressing based on how it feels. If it doesn't vibe with me, then it's not going to work.

Who is your style icon and why? I'm the kind of person who draws inspiration from the overall cultural scene rather than just following one person. Movies, music, art – you name it, they all contribute to my creativity. Though there are some individuals who rock some killer looks and inspire me a bunch, it's the whole vibe for me.

Why is it important for you to make an effort? Life is all about cherishing the small moments, whether it's unwinding in the park with loved ones after a long day or starting the morning fresh with a perfectly ironed shirt. Don't forget to add a little bit of fun to your wardrobe. Dressing up just for yourself is like a daily dose of self-love. Embracing life and cherishing the freedom to dress as you please is essential, as not everyone has the privilege to experience them fully.

LOS ANGELES STATE OF MIND

“Oh, it’s definitely back,” says the iconic author Bret Easton Ellis in this new piece about the legendary hotel Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. According to him (and many others) the French Gothic-style castle located on a hill just above the Sunset Strip is still the place to go for celebrities on the West Coast.
