Checking in with Emmanuel Lawal

This edition of The Vibe celebrates Emmanuel Lawal — a good friend, frequent collaborator, and London’s man about town. We caught up with him to chat about his playlist, where he likes to relax, and the best thing to wear with loafers.

Earlier this year, we collaborated on a talk at our VINNY’s Readers Club event at Restaurant Bobe in Copenhagen, with author Raven Smith as our guest. Following the discussion, we did a short interview with Emmanuel and captured some shots of him in a few of his VINNY’s favorites. Not only is he a great energy, but his style and talent are effortless.

What's been in your playlist lately?
A lot of Westside Gunn, Larry June, love the new album from Freddie Gibbs and love everything Ragz Originale is putting out.

What's the best thing about living in London?
Community! Especially now more than ever, I really feel London’s creative scene has become the source of inspiration in my work, especially with my studio Forestalgia. It hasn’t always been this way.

What's your favorite place in the world to relax?
Any island you need a seaplane or boat to get to.

When are you most comfortable?
Probably with family and friends, eating something battered or sauced to the bone, laughing out loud at each other.

What's the best thing to wear with loafers?
In this order: shorts, slightly baggy denim jeans, or joggers.

What's the most memorable meal you've ever had?
Anything I’ve eaten unwillingly in a European airport.
