Nappa
Nappa is a full-grain calf leather, meaning it retains the full surface of the hide with minimal processing - and all the natural character that comes with it. It has a smooth, soft hand feel with a matte to semi-gloss finish depending on the colour, and it is one of the most supple leathers to wear from day one. Nappa is prized for the patina it develops: with wear, the leather slowly deepens in tone, creases gently along natural flex points, and begins to tell the story of the person wearing it. It is one of the most forgiving leathers to care for, but it does need regular conditioning to stay supple - especially in dry or cold climates where leather tends to lose moisture quickly.
Do
- Condition regularly with a nourishing leather balm
- Apply protection spray as a baseline - especially for lighter colours
- Buff gently with a soft cloth to enhance the natural sheen
- Spot-clean with a damp cloth as needed
Don't
- Use harsh chemical cleaners - they strip the natural oils
- Let it dry out - conditioning is essential in dry or cold climates
- Ignore scuffs - light scuffs on nappa can often be buffed out early
