How our shoes are built.
All VINNY's shoes are made using one of two construction methods. Each produces a distinct feel underfoot - and each has its own sole logic.
Cemented
The sole is glued to the upper rather than stitched - making the shoe lightweight and flexible while allowing for a wide range of sole materials and designs. Clean lines and a close-to-the-ground feel.
Moccasin
The leather is moulded over the base of the last, an apron is sewn to the edges of the vamp, and the sole is stitched to the base of the shoe. The result is a soft, seamless fit that moulds to the foot - exceptional comfort and a natural, broken-in feel from the very first wear.
Sole types
The sole is the foundation of the shoe - it determines how the shoe feels on the ground, how long it lasts, and how it ages. VINNY's shoes come with either a leather or rubber sole, each with its own character and care needs.
Our leather-soled shoes offer unmatched elegance and breathability underfoot, developing a beautiful patina with wear. We strongly recommend adding a rubber topy - a thin rubber overlay applied to the forefoot - before your first wear. It protects the leather from abrasion, adds grip, and significantly extends the life of the sole. Ask your cobbler to apply one. Keep an eye on the heel as you wear them: this is the first area to show wear, and a cobbler can replace the heel tip quickly and affordably - well before any damage reaches the sole itself.
Several styles come with rubber soles - offering durability, grip, and all-weather confidence straight out of the box. Rubber soles require no special treatment beyond keeping them clean. More resistant to water and wear, making them the practical choice for daily city use.
